Kaze No Stigma

Kaze no Stigma follows a group of magic users though the main character drives the story. The main character Kazuma Kananngi was a member of the fire magic users and the next in line to be the leader but there was a problem. He couldn't use fire magic. His family was so disgusted by his lack of abilities that he was exiled from the family. Four years later Kazuma shows back up revealing his new abilities to use wind magic and a new name Kazuma Yagmi. Along with his reappearance some of the members of the Kananngi family are killed by wind magic putting Kazuma at suspect number one. Now he must prove that he didn't kill the Kananngis while dealing with the next head of the family, a overly temperamental teenager named Ayano and his little brother who already has a high level of skill in fire magic, Ren. 

I like this anime but it has one big problem and that is it's lack of originality. As I've said before when review other anime that isn't really a bad thing because in a world with hundreds of anime it see,s increasingly impossible to come up with original stories. I do not fault Kaze no Stigma for that and I enjoyed the anime all the same. The fighting is a little to non-phsyical for my taste but my favorite kinds of anime are the one's involving physical fighting martial arts. This anime has to do with magic users and spirits so it is obvious that a majority of the time the fights will involve fire being hurled at someone or wind cutting someone down. The story is pretty good though once again a very unoriginal plot device is used in Ayano being overly temperamental and hating Kazuma in public but her feeling for him change slowly over the series. This isn't one of the greatest anime ever and for most people it probably wouldn't make it into the top ten with the FMAs and Death Notes of the world but it is still good and still worth a watch. Unfortunately this anime only has one season due to the writing dying of some sickness shortly after completing the first season.
