The Story
Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple is about "Weak Knees" Kenichi a freshman in highschool who loves martial arts but he literally has zero potential for fighting and is very weak. Everyone at the school makes fun of him and basically think he is worthless. The story truly begins when Kenichi joins the Karate Club at school but the students don't let him train they just use him for their own personal punching bag. One day after being beaten and left to clean the dojo Kenichi goes to use the punching bags that he has been told he can't use and is caught by a fellow freshmen. The difference is that this freshmen is covered in muscles and has become one of the popular members of the Karate Club. The bully tells Kenichi that they will have a match and whoever loses will be kicked out of the Club. Kenichi doesn't really have a choice and so begins what he believes will be the last few days of his life. On the way home Kenichi tries to save a new student Mui (the main female protagonist) who he instantly grows fond of but he trips over his own feet and Mui ends up saving him showing her great martial arts skills. Mui gives Kenichi directions to the dojo she trains at and Kenichi comes and finds out that this dojo has nothing but Masters in the school and their training is very fierce and difficult. Thanks to the training and the encouragement from Mui Kenichi manages to win his battle but using an illegal throw. Because of his sudden burst of talent Kenichi gains the attention of the gang of the school Ragnarok and thus begins his life of constant training and fighting.
My Review
I think that this anime is one of the best I've seen in a long time. Instead of having a martial arts anime involve people who are so fast they just disappear and they just punch and kick a lot this anime is the complete opposite. This anime shows real martial art techniques and the fights look great. The story is hard to believe but that is the great thing about anime. There are a few characters that provide comedy including the main character, his sister, and the Muay Thai Master Appa how is a simpleton who has a really tough time easing up on the weak Kenichi when they spar and even made his heart stop once and gave him a mild concussion making him forget what caused the concussion.
Others Reviews
Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple features the martial arts combat of Naruto without the ninjas, the rivalry between Shinigami squads of Bleach without the supernatural Hollows, and the ridiculous training of Dragonball Zwithout the famous brand name among anime fans. The show is watchable, but fails to stand out among the sea of generic action anime.
